School Council

School Council

At Great Chesterford C of E Primary Academy, we encourage children to share their views in a number of ways. One of these is through our School Council. This elected body meet regularly to discuss a range of issues that may have derived from a variety of sources e.g. whole school projects, environmental issues or wider community and charity initiatives. The School Council is led by the Deputy Headteacher and provides an opportunity for pupils to air their views directly with the senior management of the school. It is intended that by working together and demonstrating our school value of 'Tremendous Teamwork' the children recognise that they can use their voice to make a positive impact on the life of others through democratic means.

Children from Key Stage 1 and 2, who would like to stand as their class members of the School Council, have the opportunity in the Autumn Term to nominate themselves for this role. There are three members for each class - if more than three children stand, elections are held followed by a secret ballot ; the three children with the most votes are elected for the academic year. Any child is eligible to stand and pupils can serve as many terms as they would like as long as they are not consecutive.
